Ignou is known as Indira Gandhi National Open University was founded through an Act of Parliament in 1985. It is located in Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, India. It got its name based on the former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi. It is Open and Distance Learning (ODL) which offers great and high-quality Education. Ignou has achieved enrollment of more than 4 Million+ students. Ignou is run by the Government of India under the President of India (Ram Nath Kovind).


The Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU is Nageshwar Rao. Ignou claims to be the largest University in the world. Ignou has 67regional centers, 21 schools, 29 International partner institutions and has 2,665 learner support centers.

Ignou is established to serve quality education by the means of distance and open education to the people of India and also to provide an opportunity to all segments of society. It gives opportunities of 228 certificate, diploma, degree and doctoral programs in various fields of education. Ignou also reforms to South Asia region’s STRIDE (Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education) in 1993. IGNOU hosts the Secretariats of the SAARC Consortium on Open and Distance Learning (SACODiL) and the Global Mega Universities Network (GMUNET), initially supported by UNESCO.

To get admission in Ignou

However, Ignou also conducts an entrance test for certain courses. The participants have to clear an entrance exam called OPENMAT to get enrollment in Ignou.

Scholarships in Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou)


All the student who is enrolling in Ignou has to pay the full fee at the time of admission. The students from reserved categories (Scheduled tribes and Scheduled castes) and Physically Handicapped are eligible

to get a concession on fee from the government of their states.

The physical handicap people can also take the opportunity to join

National Centre for Promotion of Employment of Disabled People (NCPEDP) scholarship scheme. 




Placement and Internship Trends  In Ignou


In Ignou there are some courses in which students have to do an internship in the first year. For example- BBA RL (Bachelor of Business Administration in Retailing) is one of the most famous courses from Ignou university.

The students have to do an internship in the retail sector such as Hype Market, Super Market and any form of retail store. It is because the students will get a Diploma in Retail from Ignou.


The internship will be provided by the ignou university or students can find themselves but it is mandatory* by the ignou university to do an internship otherwise ignou university can take certain action*.


The ignou university will notify the student by e-mail and SMS, it is the best option for students because this internship will pay the student and can hire the student after completing the internship, it is considered the best return on investment (Roi). The company also gives a certificate of internship which helps the student to join a reputed company/firm and can earn well while studying in ignou.
