What is CA Foundation?
The CA Foundation is the entry-level examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). It is the first of three levels on the path to becoming a Chartered Accountant — followed by CA Intermediate and CA Final.
Introduced as a replacement for the CPT (Common Proficiency Test), the CA Foundation tests students on fundamental concepts of accounting, law, economics, and mathematics.
CA Foundation Exam Dates 2026
ICAI now conducts the CA Foundation exam three times a year — in January, May/June, and September. This gives students more opportunities and flexibility to plan their attempt.

Month-by-Month Preparation Plan
Planning a 6-month study schedule targeting the September 2026 exam:
Top 8 Preparation Tips
- 📚ICAI Study Material First: Always start with ICAI-prescribed Study Material and Practice Manual. They are the most reliable source.
- 🗓️Consistent Daily Schedule: Study 6–8 hours daily. Consistency beats cramming every time for CA exams.
- 📝Write Every Day: For Papers 1 & 2, practice writing answers by hand. Speed and accuracy in writing matter in the exam hall.
- 🎯Solve MTPs & Past Papers: ICAI releases Mock Test Papers every session. Solving 10+ past papers dramatically improves your score.
- ➖Negative Marking Strategy: For MCQ papers, only attempt questions you're at least 60% sure about. Skip if truly unsure.
- 🔁Revise, Revise, Revise: CA Foundation is about retention. Plan 3 full revision cycles before the exam.
- 👥Join a Study Group: Discussing concepts and doubts with peers accelerates learning and keeps motivation high.
- 🧘Take Care of Your Health: Proper sleep, nutrition, and short breaks prevent burnout. Mental sharpness is your biggest asset.
