What is KVS Class 1 Admission?
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) manages over 1,200 central schools across India. Every year, lakh of families apply for Class 1 seats for the upcoming academic session. For 2026–27, KVS launched the online registration window on 20 March 2026.
One thing that makes KVS admissions different from private schools is that there is no written test or interview. Seats are allotted purely through a computerised lottery draw — making it fair and transparent for every applicant.
✅ Key Fact
No entrance exam is conducted for Class 1 admission. Selection is entirely through a digital lottery within each priority group.

Eligibility Criteria
Age Requirement
As per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines, a child must be at least 6 years and not more than 8 years old as on 31 March 2026.
📌 Age Rule
A child born on 1 April counts towards eligibility for the next academic year. The upper age limit is relaxable by up to 2 years for children with disabilities (PwD category).
Nationality
The applicant must be an Indian national. Children of foreign nationals who are working or residing in India may also apply under specific conditions.
Previous Schooling
No prior schooling is required for Class 1. However, a child should not have already completed Class 1 in any school. If applying from a pre-primary class, that does not disqualify the child.
Priority Categories for Admission
KVS places every applicant into one of seven priority groups. Within each group, seats are filled by lottery. A higher priority number means better chances of selection.
1
Children of KVS staff (transferable posts)
2
Children of Central Government employees (transferable)
3
Children of ex-servicemen / Defence / CAPF personnel
4
Children of Central Govt. employees (non-transferable / retirees)
5
Children of State Government employees (transferable)
6
Children of PSU / Autonomous Body employees
7
General public (including SC / ST / OBC / EWS / BPL)
Seat Reservation Policy
Within the available seats, KVS follows government reservation norms:
📌 EWS / BPL
25% of seats in the general public category are reserved for EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and BPL families.

How the KVS Lottery System Works
Since thousands of families apply for a limited number of seats, KVS uses a fully automated lottery system to maintain fairness. Here is what happens after registration closes:
1
All applications are sorted according to the 7 priority categories.
2
A computer-based random draw is conducted within each category until available seats are filled.
3
The lottery is conducted by the school Principal in front of a school management committee. The process is broadcast live on the school's YouTube channel.
4
The first provisional merit list is published on 9 April 2026 on the portal and on the school notice board.
5
Selected parents must verify documents and pay admission fees within the given deadline. Failure to do so forfeits the seat.
📌 Class Size
Each standard class section holds 40 students. The Principal may extend this to a maximum of 55, after which a new section is opened.
KVS Fee Structure
KVS is one of the most affordable quality school options in India. Here is a simple breakdown:
| Fee Type | Details |
| Tuition Fee (Class 1 to 8) | Not charged |
| Tuition Fee (Class 9–10, Boys) | As per KVS schedule |
| Girls / SC / ST students | Full tuition waiver |
| KVS employees' children | Full tuition waiver |
| Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi (VVN) | Applicable (minimal) |
| Computer Fund (Class 3 onward) | Applicable (minimal) |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there any exam for KVS Class 1 admission?
No. KVS does not conduct any written test, oral exam, or interview for Class 1 admission. Selection is done entirely through a computerised lottery within each priority group.
How many schools can I apply to?
You can select up to 3 different Kendriya Vidyalayas in order of preference. However, you cannot apply to the same school more than once in the same registration.
What if my child is not selected in the first list?
If seats remain vacant after the first merit list, a second and sometimes a third provisional list is released. You do not need to apply again — your application stays active.
Can I apply without a Central Government job?
Yes. General public applicants (Priority 7) can also apply. Seats are allocated after filling the higher-priority categories, so availability depends on each school's intake.

What is the official website for KVS Class 1 admission?
The official and only authentic portal is
admission.kvs.gov.in. Do not apply through any third-party website or agent.
Can I edit the form after submitting?
Generally, KVS does not allow editing after submission. Fill the form carefully. If an error is found, contact the school's admission desk directly.
